White spot syndrome is a viral infection of shrimps that is highly lethal and contagious. The disease caused the collapse of the Chinese shrimp farming industry in 1993. In 1995 the disease was first reported in the United States. The virus is assembled by at least 58 proteins, the article reports research findings related to these proteins and more.
